On September 14, 2010, I took The B&G Society to view the Spring/Summer 2011 Ready-To-Wear Collection of Kissed by Rain at Open House Gallery in New York City. This was the second time I got to experience a fashion show during New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2010 and it was a great one. I first heard of Rain King, designer of Kissed by Rain, when this show was mentioned on Twitter. Kissed By Rain started in 2006. Her line consisted of t-shirts and hoodies that was first worn by Teyana Taylor on MTVs “My Super Sweet 16”. Her clothing line has also been featured in Seventteen Magazine and other fashion shows.  According to the show’s press release, “This year’s line showcases tailored pants and shorts, dresses with bold colors, swimwear, and the use of peacock feathers. King stated, ‘This collection was inspired from the famous poem, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, by using the bird as the main focus, this collection is sure to sing just like the caged bird; however, the only difference is that Kissed By Rain will sing the song of success.’  (Press Release courtesy of Kayren Davis of KD Couture).

When I came to Open House Gallery, I was impressed with the layout of the event and recommend this venue to all fashion designers who wants to do an invitation-only show. The top floor was a meet-and-greet area where all attendees can take media pictures.

There was a  food table that consisted of delicious sandwich wraps, vegatable platter and cupcakes with the icing shaped like spring flowers ( courtesy of Leslie Williams of A. Marie’s Sweet Spot). The bar served Marquis de la Tour Loire Valley Brut Rose Wine. One of the event sponsors was Cynos Hair Care (www.blackice.com) who provided product samples in the show’s goodies bags.

Before the show began, I got to meet my Facebook friend Kells (5001 Flavors and http://imperfectorganization.blogspot.com/ ) for the first time.

I have met a model named Samantha who wore a beautfiul cocktail dress made by her friend Sarah Dawson of Sadofashions. At first, I was too shy to ask her can I take a picture of her dress and feature it on my blog. I finally let my guard down and asked…she was more than happy too. In fact, all eyes were on her garment throughout the show.  I also met and mingled with Tatiana R. Johnson, editor-in-chief of Culture Shock Magazine and Ramono Martelli of the blog  ShockVintage ShockStar.

Later on, I spotted Mimi Loubeau (pictured above) of www.TheRealMimi.com looking fierce as always in her Military-inspired look.

Minutes before the show began, Rain came out and thanked EVERY supporter that took the time to come out and review her collection. As many fashion shows I have attended, that was the first time I seen a fashion designer greeted and give special thanks to those who are helping him/her become successful. However, backstage of fashion shows can be hectic which makes it impossible for some designers to come out before the show starts.  Overall, the runway presentation was awesome. The models looked beautiful and did a wonderful job showcasing the collection on the catwalk. It is safe to say that Rain King has a bright future ahead of her with her clothing line. I am looking forward to all of her upcoming collections in the near future.
