Actress and Plus-Size SuperModel Mia Amber Davis sadly departed from the Fashion World May 11, 2011. I remember seeing her for the first time on the reality show Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency and in person at NJ designer Douglas Says fashion show in 2008. I dubbed Mia Amber “The Naomi Campbell of Plus Size Modeling”. She was a force to be reckoned with upon the runway and her photos rock the bells in editorials and advertisement campaigns. Mia Amber was the voice for all plus-size women and encouraged them to be happy with the beauty the creator has given them and hold their confidence to a higher degree.
Our hearts and condolences goes out to the family of Mia Amber Davis.
A Lyric For Mia
The angelic face needs no make-up
The presence of a smile brings warmth
The body fills the room with light
Curves turn heads from left to right
Bringing a shock treatment to the one’s hearts
Fashion opens eyes
Style brings memories
Personality makes no one forget
The concret is the runway
Being stepped upon with a heel of beauty
Scents leaving a trail of trance
Leading the followers into sensuality
Now as it time to go home
We will ever get the same presence again
But what we do appreciate…is the one we did have

For those who have followed this blog since 2009, I have featured the Fabric Twinz countless times. Designer Tanise recently unveiled the Fall 2011 this past spring.

In 2010, I first caught sight of Salieu Jalloh on BET’s Centric “Model City” that profiles the life of the beautiful Black and Latino male models of New York City’s Red Model Management. I watched this Sierra Leone born model with “brown cocoa skin” walked the runways from New York to Paris, modeled for ad campaigns like United Colors of Benetton and Sean John; and living up his dream as a successful male model…all the while dealing with the hardships of creating a relationship with his estranged father. Salieu displayed a character of strength, wisdom, and compassion on “Model City” that made his fashion fans fell in love with him. Since the show aired, he has continued to blaze the model trail walking in Fashion Weeks for New York, Paris, and Milan; ad campaigns for Bloomingdales and Kenneth Cole; and being ranked on Model.com’s Top 50 Male Models. He is the poster child for the Exquisite.
Those were not Shaunie O’Neal’s legs that you saw in the advertisement for her hit reality show Basketball Wives when it first made its debut in 2010. Those slender long legs belong to the 5ft11 physique of Myss E Taylor (born Elizabeth Taylor). E. Taylor was modeling for two years before catching her big break modeling for BBW Ad Campaign where she is holding the court with the net in her hands and stomping her heels on the glistening shards of the backboard. She is the spokes model for women’s clothing line Eccoci; has walked the runways for Annie S. intimates and BET’s Rip The Runway (2009); and been featured in photo spreads for Gorgeous and Jamrock magazines . E. Taylor is continuing to do big things in this industry and is on her way to being known across the globe.
When I looked at Corey’s portfolio on Models.com, I could not even call him handsome because it was an understatement. He had an inviting sex appeal, smooth chocolate skin, and those eyes would make a woman’s heart melt. Baptiste, 19, hails from the Bronx, NY and was discovered by his now-manager Brandon of VNY Modeling Agency last year in Spring 2010. When he is not jet-setting across the globe for photo shoots and fashion shows, Baptiste utilizes his time attending school and spending time with friends. His interests are sports, music, travel, family, and friends. He follows the Knicks, Yankees, and Jets (BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It’s all about the Giants! LOL). I feel as though Corey Baptiste is going to be a household name amongst black male models. I can see him becoming an icon for the new era.
Hello Belles and Gents! It has been a long time since I posted a Belle of the Ball profile. Maybe it was due to me messing around with my Tumblr page where you can see reblogging countless pictures of beautiful female and male fashion models of color. It was time for me to bring it back and I chose Melodie Monrose.
Originating from the Caribbean Island of Martinique, 18 year old Melodie Monrose was discovered weeks before Spring 2011 fashion show castings began. She was flown to New York, signed to Wilhelmina Models on the spot, and has been jet setting across the world walking in New York, Paris, and Milan Fashion Weeks. She is named Models.com Top Ten Newcomer of Spring/Summer 2011 and Style.com Top Ten Fresh Faces.
