A Lyric for Mia

17 May

Actress and Plus-Size SuperModel Mia Amber Davis sadly departed from the Fashion World May 11, 2011. I remember seeing her for the first time on the reality show Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency and in person at NJ designer Douglas Says fashion show in 2008. I dubbed Mia Amber “The Naomi Campbell of Plus Size Modeling”. She was a force to be reckoned with upon the runway and her photos rock the bells in editorials and advertisement campaigns. Mia Amber was the voice for all plus-size women and encouraged them to be happy with the beauty the creator has given them and hold their confidence to a higher degree.

Our hearts and condolences goes out to the family of Mia Amber Davis.

A Lyric For Mia

The angelic face needs no make-up
The presence of a smile brings warmth
The body fills the room with light
Curves turn heads from left to right
Bringing a shock treatment to the one’s hearts
Fashion opens eyes
Style brings memories
Personality makes no one forget
The concret is the runway
Being stepped upon with a heel of beauty
Scents leaving a trail of trance
Leading the followers into sensuality
Now as it time to go home
We wonder
We will ever get the same presence again
But what we do appreciate…is the one we did have

Sometimes it maybe hard to work with your sibiling when it comes to working on a creative project. However, these three sets of twins in the fashion world debunks that myth and prove that they can both assemble a work of art that is innovative, trendy, and eye catching.

D Piper Twins

I first heard of the D Piper Twins, Chantelle and Danielle, when I did a write-up on famed shades designer Stevie Boi’s presentation at New York Fashion Week Spring 2011 “The Woods” and the girls informed me that they provided the accessories and clothing for the models.

Danielle is the creative force behind Kastle Designs which consists of cocktail and evening dresses while Chanetelle is the innovator for Treasure Chest that includes handmade unique, fun and fresh, beaded creations, incorporating lavish gemstones, sand stones, cultured pearls, and crystals. Both of their lines have been seen on CW’s “Gossip Girl” and worn by America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) winners Naima Moira and Saleisha Stowers; former ANTM contestants Bianca Golden and Lulu Braithwaite; and actress and model RoseMarie Reyes.

Besides being great designers, the twins are also working models that have appeared on style segments for NBC Today Show and Rachael Ray and were cover models for League and David & Young magazine.

Sachika Twins

Thank goodness for Follow Friday on Twitter because that is how I came to know about these beautiful Vietnamese twins known to the world as The Sachika Twins.

To-Tam & To-Nya Sachika both hailed from Montreal, Quebec to the Big Apple for the Ultimate American Dream.  While working as cocktail waitresses and real estate agents, they were inspired to create a fashion line for the “modern woman”. These emerging designers create body hugging dresses, fun jumpsuits and rompers that is fitted best for a woman who is secure and confident.
The Sachika Twins breakout moment came about at their New York Fashion Week S/S 2011 presentation when they infamously designed a special hip-hugging curve-loving dress for Coco, the wife of rapper/actor Ice-T, that became known as the “Butt Cleavage” dress.

They recently wrapped up New York Fashion Week Fall 2011 with their latest collection, “The Awakening of the Swan” which received rave reviews across the board.

Coco and Breezy

These Minnesota, Minneapolis born and bred twins came to New York City with only a dollar and a dream.

Corianna and Brianna Dotson, better known as Coco and Breezy created a futuristic eyewear and accessory line that quickly reached success in the fashion world. In early years, The Dotson sisters used shades as their comfort zone to shield themselves from being relentlessly taunted by their peers for being different and use it as an inspiration to launch their 20/20 Eyewear collection. They have been featured in numerous magazines such as Black Beauty &Hair, Fader, Kore, and The Source.

Coco and Breezy unveiled their new collection “Wearable Art” at Fall 2011 New York Fashion Week.
